It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of José Martínez Calvo. Espacio Mínimo gallery wants to recognize his career and honor his memory by continuing the project started by Pepe 30 years ago. With the essential complicity of our artists and the support of the artistic community, we will continue the journey. Our deepest condolences and our love to all his family and friends.

JOSE MARTINEZ CALVO. Graduated in Philosophy and Letters (History Section) from the University of Murcia and Corresponding Academician in Murcia of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. He began his professional career as an art critic, curator and researcher, publishing books and articles in various media. He worked as Coordinator of exhibitions, publications and Painting and Sculpture Biennials of the Department of Plastic Arts of the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community of Murcia. In 1992 he was appointed curator of the Plastic Arts exhibitions and responsible for the Publications of the Murcia Pavilion at the Universal Exhibition in Seville. José Martínez Calvo and Luis Valverde Espejo founded Espacio Mínimo gallery in October of that same year in the city of Murcia and in the year 2000 they moved to their current location in Madrid. José Martínez Calvo has been President of the Consortium of Spanish Contemporary Art Galleries and member of the ARCO Committee. In the performing arts, he intervened as an actor and costume designer in various productions, including the world premiere of El Público by Federico García Lorca at the Auditorium of the University of Murcia with La Bella Aurelia or El Calderón by Pasolini, and he founded in 1990 with Luis Valverde Espejo the Teatro del Laberinto company, producing the adaptation of the novel by Patricia Hysmith Strangers on a Train, Valentín by Juán Gil Albert or Life is a Dream by Calderon de la Barca. From his passion for fashion, dance, film and theater he leaves us his Private Collection of fashion and theatre drawings and photographs.
